NEWS AT A GLANCE

Enfield Secures £4m Boost to Tackle Homelessness Crisis

Enfield Council

Enfield Council has welcomed a £4m increase in Government funding for homelessness prevention for 2025/2026. The borough has been at the forefront of a homelessness crisis fueled by the cost-of-living pressures and a critical shortage of available housing.

The council has spent £30 million from reserves over the past three years to address emergency housing needs. The funding boost will help ease immediate financial pressures and support families in temporary accommodation.

Leader of Enfield Council, Cllr Ergin Erbil, emphasized the devastating impact of homelessness and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to ambitious housing initiatives, including a 3,500 Council House building programme and the regeneration of key estates.

Cllr Ayten Guzel, Cabinet Member for Housing, stressed the need for long-term solutions, including policy changes such as making increased Local Housing Allowance rates permanent and lifting outdated caps on Housing Benefit subsidies.

Enfield Council remains determined to tackle the crisis through local developments, government collaboration, and ongoing lobbying for sustainable housing policies.

Council Ordered to Fix Enfield Woodland Footpath After Waste Found

Enfield Council has been directed by the Environment Agency to remove inappropriate waste from a newly constructed footpath at the Enfield Chase Woodland. Items such as plastic bottles, paint rollers, and domestic waste were discovered mixed with construction materials by a local environmental campaigner.

The council initially claimed the material met legal standards, but the Environment Agency ruled it illegal and ordered corrective action. This incident has raised concerns about the council’s contractor oversight and environmental compliance. The footpath, funded by a £500,000 grant, is part of the award-winning Enfield Chase Woodland Restoration Project, which aims to enhance green spaces through extensive tree planting and community engagement.

Make a Difference This Christmas: Become a Foster Carer with Enfield Council

This holiday season, Enfield Council shares a heartfelt message in their Christmas Fostering Video, “Fostering Actually.” If the spirit of giving inspires you, consider opening your heart and home by becoming a foster carer.

Fostering provides stability, care, and support to children and young people who cannot live with their parents. Whether temporary or permanent, fostering offers these children a sense of family during a challenging and uncertain time. The love and guidance of a foster carer can leave a lasting, positive impact on their lives.

Beyond being an act of kindness, fostering can also be a fulfilling career choice. You’ll have the opportunity to work from home, supported financially while making a profound difference to a child’s life.

This Christmas, take the first step toward transforming a child’s future. To learn more about fostering with Enfield Council, visit [Insert Link]. Let’s make this season truly meaningful by giving children the love and support they deserve. 🎄❤️

The U.S. markets experienced a notable surge, attributed to cooler-than-expected inflation data, which eased investor concerns and overshadowed potential government shutdown threats. In contrast, the UK markets saw modest declines across the FTSE indices, reflecting investor caution amid global economic considerations. We’ll see what the market does in these days of 2024.

Enfield Shines at the London New Year’s Day Parade—Be Part of It!

As the New Year approaches, excitement is building for the London New Year’s Day Parade, an annual showcase of London’s vibrant boroughs. This year, Enfield will be stepping into the spotlight, and we’re calling on residents to join us in making this celebration unforgettable!

The parade isn’t just an event; it’s a chance for boroughs to show off their creativity, community spirit, and pride. With a £20,000 prize at stake for the best entry, the competition is fierce, but Enfield is ready to shine.

This year, Mayor Mohammad Islam entrusted local community champion Gary Kousoulou to lead Enfield’s efforts. Gary, known for his engaging community live chats and inspiring resilience while living with multiple sclerosis, took on the honor with enthusiasm.

“Enfield is an incredible place,” Gary shared. “With over 88 languages spoken, it’s a borough where diversity meets innovation, and where people come together to support one another. This parade is a celebration of everything that makes Enfield special.”

What to Expect from Enfield’s Parade Entry

Gary and his team have designed a creative, vibrant entry centered around diversity, curiosity, and connection. Volunteers will wear T-shirts featuring eye examination charts in different languages spoken across Enfield—a playful way to highlight the borough’s rich cultural tapestry and spark conversations.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our community and local businesses,” Gary emphasized, expressing gratitude to sponsors like Sightcare, The Hakim Group, Tree at NoCO2, and many others for their contributions.
