Enfield Reflects on Five Years Since COVID Pandemic Began

Enfield residents joined the UK’s Day of Reflection yesterday, marking five years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Organized by Marie Curie, the day honored those lost and recognized the sacrifices of healthcare workers.
A nationwide minute of silence was observed at midday, with landmarks across the country lighting up in yellow. Enfield Council encouraged residents to pause and reflect, with many sharing personal tributes.
The pandemic’s impact remains deeply felt, and local health officials continue to emphasise the need for mental health support for those still coping with loss.

FOOTBALL
ARSENAL - Held to a Draw at Old Trafford as Title Hopes Fade
Manchester United 1 : 1 Arsenal
Arsenal salvaged a 1-1 draw against Manchester United thanks to Declan Rice's late strike, but the result did little to boost their fading Premier League title hopes. Bruno Fernandes put United ahead with a first-half free-kick, exposing a poor positioning error from Arsenal keeper David Raya.
Despite dominating possession, Arsenal lacked cutting edge, with Mikel Merino deployed as a makeshift striker. Raya redeemed himself with key second-half saves, including a last-minute double stop to deny Fernandes a winner.
The draw leaves Arsenal 15 points behind leaders Liverpool, while United sit in 14th, continuing to struggle despite Fernandes’ standout performance. Click for details.
TOTTENHAM - Son’s Late Penalty Secures Spurs Comeback Draw Against Bournemouth
Tottenham Hotspurs 2 : 2 Bournemouth
A late penalty from Son Heung-min rescued Tottenham as they fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth. The Cherries had taken control through Marcus Tavernier’s opener and a cool finish from Evanilsonafter halftime.
Spurs looked off the pace but found a lifeline when Pape Sarr’s misdirected cross looped in unexpectedly. Son, introduced at halftime, sparked life into the attack and sealed the draw with a well-taken penalty after being fouled by Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The result leaves Tottenham 13th as they turn their attention to their Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar, while Bournemouth sit 8th, two points off the European spots but frustrated after letting a crucial win slip. Click for details.
ENFIELD TOWN FC - Crucial Away Win
Salisbury City 1 : 2 Enfield Town
A spirited 2-1 victory over Salisbury saw the team close the gap to two points in the fight for Step 2 survival. Henry Hawkins’ header and a goalkeeping error gifted the goals, while Joe Wright’s saves and solid defending secured the win despite late pressure.
Manager Gavin Macpherson praised the team’s resilience. Next up: a midweek clash against Hampton and Richmond. A vital win to keep hopes alive! Click for details.
